Come along to this fun and interactive crafty session for children aged 2 to 4 years old.
As Halloween is just around the corner, we will be making ‘Funny Monster Masks’!
What’s this lesson all about?
If you’re like us, you never really grew out of the love for creating a fun monster mask.
Before we start creating, let’s chat about the fear.
The fear of darkness and a monster under a bead, may be some of the biggest fears kids experience.
Encouraging children to draw and create monsters will give them another avenue for expression. Showing that these monsters are not scary and talking about the monster masks also may help them feel safe.
What Super Skills are we going to learn?
Bilateral Function: This will be exercised during the activity as the children will thread their monster’ teeth by holding onto the cardboard with one hand and threading with the other. The function will further be developed during painting, applying triangles and gluing the eyes as they will be given continuous opportunities to make use of both their left and right hands.
Form Constancy: The children will identify and recognise objects of different sizes, shapes and colours during this activity. These objects will then be integrated as they thread around the triangle shaped mouth, stick smaller brightly coloured triangles and used pool noodles for the eyes.
Adults are required to stay at the cafe throughout the class, but it’s a great excuse to relax with a coffee and yummy piece of cake. If you are bringing along any other children who are not booked on to the class, there will be off the shelf crafts available for them to enjoy, or they are welcome to play in our small soft play area (adult supervision required).
